 About QuikCalc
Why use QuikCalc? There are a number of full-fledged money management apps for the
Psion models. This isn't one of them. Simply put, we wanted a small, fast application
whose only purpose in life was to record transactions that would be uploaded to
Quicken(c) later.
 The main necessities were:
 1. Date, Account, Amount, Payee, Reference should all be
 supported.
 2. Have initial balances that aren't exported.
 3. Quick and easy exporting to Quicken(c). All accounts
 should be exported at once.
And with that, we present QuikCalc...

 About backups...
We're talking about money here. You should always keep a security backup of the files
here on the
Psion, and the ones in Quicken(c) on your PC/Mac. GB software will not be held liable
for any damages
caused by the loss of data. Not keeping a backup is like skydiving without a parachute,
or driving with no oil in your car. Bad things will happen, and the only way to prevent
loosing data, is to keep a backup...

 "Button" interface
New to version 2 is the quick one touch button interface. Press Menu and choose "Set
preferences" to choose the new button interface. Each button has a function (or two)
with the name of that function. Pressing a key that corresponds to an underlined letter,
brings up that option, for example:
press the letter "n" for "New transaction"

 New transaction
This option allows you to enter the Date, Account, Withdrawal or Deposit, Payee,
Amount and a
reference. All will be brought into Quicken(c) except that the reference is ignored going
into a Credit Card account.

New to version 2 is the
transfer to/from feature. It allows you to make a withdrawal (or deposit) from
one account, and transfer it to another account. For example, you can withdraw money
from your checking account and transfer it to your Visa card. If you withdraw from the
primary account, money is deposited in the transfer account. If you deposit into the
primary account, money is withdrawn from the transfer account. If the primary and
transfer accounts are the same, the transaction will cancel itself out.

Press Enter to complete the dialog ESC to cancel the dialog. Use the arrow keys to move
within the dialog. Press TAB on the Date line for a pop-up calendar.

 Account balances
This will display account balances for all of the ten possible accounts.

 Initial balances
If you wish to keep a running balance of your accounts, you should enter initial balances.
After you upload your QIF files, and delete the old transactions the balance will be
updated. If you then do work in Quicken(c), the balances will not match. You should
then update the initial balances manually.

 Rename accounts
This allows you to rename accounts after the initial setup. When you use this feature,
your old names show as the prompts to change. Please note that as this will not change
the balances, you should keep your accounts in the same order.

 Export QIF files
Unlike every other Quicken(c)-like application for the Psion, the export to QIF function
is quick and easy. Every other app makes you enter each account and export them
separately. Just choose export and QuikCalc will create a QIF file for each of your
accounts that has transactions. If there are no transactions in an account then a QIF file
will not be created for that account.

 Delete transactions
As exporting takes every transaction into the QIF file, after you export you should delete
your previous transactions. Don't do this until after you have successfully brought your
info into Quicken(c). Your balances will automatically be updated.

 Set preferences
This is used to choose the user interface, pick a default currency symbol and to choose
the date format. If you have a European version of Quicken, choose:
 Day/Month/Year
if you have a US version use:
 Month/Day/Year

 Ver 2.1
This release addresses the following issues:
 1. Quicken (R) Version 5 for Windows no longer imports QIF files with a
four digit year in the date field (i.e. 1996) in the right order.
For some unknown reason this version of Quicken can only import two
digit years (i.e. 96). Earlier versions can import either or. All this
means to you is that if you use Quicken 5 for Windows, you won't be able
to import transactions that take place after the year 2000. Hopefully
Intuit will release a new version (for a charge no doubt) that "solves"
this problem. QuikCalc exports dates after the year 1999 as four digit
years. This does not currently affect Quicken for Macintosh.
 2. Set preferences will no longer come up if you ESC out of the dialog
 and then exit QuikCalc.
 3. Set preferences now reflect your current date and currency choices
